King's Orientation Day 2023
2023.09.05

King's Prep and Senior School Orientation Day

The new school year has begun, marking the start of our journey together. At Orientation Day our students, in their full school uniforms, entered the KSS campus brimming with confidence and anticipation, and reignited our lively campus atmosphere with their youthful energy.

Accompanied by their parents, our students began their day with a chance to pose in front of our Orientation Day backboard, emblazoned with a set of King's slogans and decorations to mark the new school year. This special moment symbolised the official starting point of our students' school year, when they set off on a brand-new stage of their educational journey.

Our Founding Executive Principal, Mr. Geoff Cocksworth, who directly oversees our Senior School academic team, provided our new senior students and their parents with a detailed introduction to the King's educational philosophy, the senior school timetable, the curriculum, and the new tutor system. This arrangement is aimed at ensuring that our senior school teaching is organised in a streamlined and comprehensive manner, so that our students are provided with even closer support in their studies.

Our Head of Prep, Mrs. Carrie Cameron, and Deputy Head of Prep, Mr. Matt Kenney, were up next to talk about the leadership team at Prep School and the curriculum, and introduced everyone to the teaching teams for each class. Everyone in our packed auditorium was brimming with excitement and anticipation for the new school year.

Our Assistant Heads of Prep, Mr. Stephen Pearce (for grades 1-3) and Ms. Sarah Hall (for grades 4-7), talked every year group through the specifics of their curriculum, as well as through the important arrangements that will take place in each term. The presentations by our school leadership team provided everyone with a clearer understanding of the teaching methods and practices at King's, so that our students and parents will start the year full of confidence and on a positive note.

Having been briefed by our school leadership team, our students and their parents went to their respective classrooms to meet their teachers and to discuss class-specific arrangements. Their teachers further elaborated on the curriculum and the various projects that each class will be undertaking over the course of the year, and our students got to meet their new classmates and start forming friendships, while their parents had the chance to share their experiences and insights with each other. This year, all of us at King's will endeavour to grow together and support each other to the fullest.

It is worth pointing out that from now on, King's Senior School will not only continue to implement a traditional class system, but will also adopt a tutor system to provide students with additional support towards completing their secondary education. Through the tutor system, each and every one of our students will receive personalised academic guidance and support. The tutors will play an important role in helping students overcome obstacles in their learning, and will provide targeted guidance to ensure that our students are able to achieve their desired exam results and are able to gain admission to the university of their choice.

King's Pre-Prep Orientation Day

Shrouded in rays of sparkling sunlight, our happy little angels embarked on their journey at King's Pre-Prep, where they quickly began making fond memories of the new school year. All of the memories, large and small, that they acquire over the course of growing up will in time form a mosaic of recollection of their childhood.

In order to bring happiness to our young students on their first day, and to give them a little extra encouragement, we prepared a special Orientation Day ceremony for them. By ringing the bell, they could get themselves a Surprise Gift Ball, to start them off on a journey full of happy surprises.

Our Head of King's Pre-Prep, Mr. James Balcombe, introduced our new parents to the importance of the British Early Years Foundational Stage (EYFS) framework, and explained the details of how King's Pre-Prep helps children to learn through play. King's will support our students in spending their time at our school in a meaningful way, which includes providing them with rich and varied opportunities, nurturing their creativity, social skills and cognitive abilities, and establishing a warm, safe, and mutually-encouraging environment for them. We work hard to make sure that our children learn through play, thereby encouraging their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and laying a robust foundation for their future education.

Time never stands still, and King's has seen its share of changes over the summer. For one, each class has chosen an animal as its symbol, which has been used by the teachers as inspiration for the unique decoration of their classroom. They have also arranged lots of wonderful new learning areas in order to provide their students with endless stimulation and joy. The unique decorations have turned our classrooms into learning spaces full of inspiration and enjoyment, igniting the children's interest and spirit of exploration.
