Children running around campus with the wind in their hair and not a care in the world, this blustery season has brought a renewed sense of excitement to The King's School Shenzhen. In early March, our school hosted a group of students and teachers from our Hong Kong international sister school on a Study Exchange Programme at King's. Together with their peers at KSS, they enjoyed a unique experience of fun and learning. 

Discovery Mind is a well-known school in Hong Kong with a track-record of over twenty years of educational excellence. Their model of education for Pre-Nursery, Kindergarten, and Primary School has been widely praised. Their visit was not just organised on account of their esteem for our school and its educational principles, but also had the aim of further entrenching the friendship and cooperation between our two schools. The two sides engaged in deep discussions about such topics as sharing educational resources and cultural exchange, laying a firm foundation for future cooperation.

In their Chinese class, the exchange students and our King’s students jointly learnt about facts and customs related to the 24 solar terms of the traditional Chinese calendar, while in Design & Technology, they tried their hand at 3D printing. In Drama, they freely explored alternate lives, and in their Science class, practical experiments helped them intuitively understand the theoretical knowledge discussed in their textbook.

The first week of March was also the occasion for our very special Upper Prep sports day, a thrilling mix of teamwork and competition. The exchange students from Hong Kong actively took part alongside their Grade 4-7 counterparts in a series of intense events, displaying the energy and passion of youth. Disciplines such as running, hurdles, the long jump, and the javelin do not just test children’s physical prowess and technique, but also train their willpower and team spirit.

On our athletics track, every contest was a friendly one, and every shout of encouragement was sincere. At KSS, every participant is a protagonist, and every whole-hearted attempt is worthy of respect. At times like this, what is most important is not winning or losing, but the spirit of racing and competing together. This is what sport is truly about. 

The climax of sports day was the tug of war. Students, parents, and teachers all took their turn to test their strength and determination. In the heat of the moment, and in response to the enthusiastic encouragement from the onlookers, people were not tugging for “war”, but to make their team proud.

At the end, every participant received a medal in recognition of their relentless effort and individual progress.

The King’s School Shenzhen has from the outset followed its vision for educational excellence, combining a rich campus culture with a stimulating academic atmosphere to create a learning environment full of passion, joy, and growth for every student.
