KSS’s Qianhai campus combines the British courtyard architectural style with the best elements of modern design, utilising low-density buildings and large green spaces to create a living and learning environment that is full of creativity, energy, and ambition. Our campus has received international recognition for its high standard of design and construction, winning a Red Dot Design Award in Germany and a The Plan Award in Italy in 2023.

In addition to arranging its spaces properly, an outstanding educational environment must also be designed with students’ physical and mental health in mind. With four-person dorm rooms for junior boarders to make new friends in and two-person dorm rooms for senior boarders to take a step towards independence, every inch of KSS’s boarding house is designed to meet our students’ individual needs.

The meticulous layout of our study areas, the functionality of students’ individual wardrobes and storage spaces, and our clean, separate toilet and shower rooms are all aimed at providing the residents of our boarding house with a comfortable and functional boarding environment. 

Unique boarding activities to enjoy growing up to the fullest

Boarding is about much more than just providing students with a place to sleep. It’s also about nurturing their independence, social skills, and leadership abilities. Boarding school life at KSS is rich and structured, with everything from getting up in the morning to lights out at night following a clear schedule to ensure that every child has an outstanding boarding experience. 

After dinner, boarders have time to exercise and socialise. With activities like basketball, badminton, snooker, chess, table tennis, and more, this is a time for students to decompress. Our copious supply of practice rooms for those who play musical instruments and our library resources provide additional options for students keen to go the extra mile. Evening study, supervised by our classroom teachers, provides students with an additional period of personalised learning support.

Furthermore, a series of activities rich in creativity add variation and excitement to boarding life. With events such as movie nights, birthday parties, festival celebrations, and more, our boarders get to experience growing up in a supportive environment that develops their independence. 

Professional boarding staff and logistical support for a carefree experience

Our boarding team, consisting of 4 classroom teachers and 3 dedicated boarding tutors, is not only responsible for the day-to-day running of our boarding house, but also for guiding and supporting our students in all facets of their boarding school life, including their academics, time management, and life habits.

Our boarding tutors reside on the same floors of our boarding house as our students do, to ensure that our boarders can get help at any hour of the day or night. They are familiar with every boarder’s habits and are dedicated to helping them overcome whatever challenges they may face, and with our carefully-crafted pastoral care system in place, every boarder gets to feel the warmth and care of home at our school. 

Our canteen, run by our in-house operations and catering teams, is naturally one of our boarders’ most-favoured places on campus. Every day, our cooks meticulously prepare three meals and three snacks (breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning snack, afternoon snack, and evening snack), each of them both delicious and nutritious, so that everyone in school gets the energy boost they need and grows up healthy and happy. 

Our boarding team has instituted a strict and comprehensive policy on the use of electronic devices. Junior boarders are limited to 40 minutes of screen time a day, usually planned for 16:00 to 16:40, to avoid the excessive use of electronic devices having a negative impact on their studies.

On account of their study and homework requirements, senior boarders follow a more flexible policy towards electronic devices, permitting them to use their computers between 7 AM and 10 PM, and their phones use time is 5 PM - 7PM and 9 PM - 10PM. At 10 PM, all electronic devices have to be handed in to avoid the possibility of screens disturbing boarders’ sleep.

When they are not held by students, all electronic devices are kept in one place. Our aim is for our students to enjoy the benefits of technology, without being controlled by them. Our teachers help our students acquire healthy habits for the use of technology, working hard to foster their ability to control and protect themselves in the digital age.

From the cleanliness of dormitory bathrooms to the responsible use of electronic devices, no detail escapes the notice of our operations team, who provide strong support to our teachers in making sure that boarding school life is free from worries. In our nurturing, safe, and warm boarding environment, students not only learn how to manage their own time, they also learn how to get along well with others, how to find their place in a group, and how to help others. These valuable experiences will no doubt serve them well throughout their lives.
